The mechanics of MOM-associated molecular machines
Mitochondria form a dynamic network that constantly undergoes fission and fusion. The network is formed by tubulation and motility of kinesin motors along the cytoskeleton. However, the mechanics and dynamics of the underlying mitochondrial transport complex is poorly understood. We will investigate reconstituted in vitro assays with purified components using single-molecule force and fluorescence microscopy to provide a molecular and mechanical understanding of MOM tubulation, transport, and its regulation.
